Conduct Process

The student conduct process is intended to be a learning experience, which can foster growth, behavioral changes, and personal understanding of one’s responsibilities and consequences and impacts of one’s actions. This process balances the needs and rights of the student with the needs and expectations of the university and community at large.

When we receive a report that alleges a student may have violated the Student Conduct Code, we start the student conduct process and we may investigate further or refer to a hearing. 

Students are encouraged to engage in the process by checking their emails, attending meetings or hearings, asking questions during meetings or hearings, seek an advisor if they wish, and complete their sanctions (if any) in accordance with the directions they receive, until the process is concluded.

Accessibility Resources Through the Conduct Process

In support of the identities and life experiences our students bring to conversation, if you need assistance or support to participate in the student conduct process including, but not limited to, a translator or accommodations, please contact your Student Conduct Administrator upon receiving your hearing letter.

  • Students with documented disabilities may request reasonable accommodations for any part of the conduct process, including communication regarding the process. Accommodations include, but are not limited to a sign language interpreter, the presence of a service animal, the presence of a reader or other trained professional assistant, etc. Please contact your Student Conduct Administrator upon receiving your hearing letter so the student and Student Conduct Administrator can work together to contact Student Accessibility Services for determination of appropriate accommodations. As per ADA, students with disabilities are expected to adhere to the conduct policies applicable to all students.
  • Students may request to have a translator present at their hearing and any meetings related to their case. It is the student's responsibility to determine if a translator is needed. Please contact your Student Conduct Administrator upon receiving your hearing letter so the student and the Student Conduct Administrator can work together to attempt to locate a translator connected to the University. As is the case with all students in the process, all parties are responsible for presenting their own case. The translator will only be providing direct translation in the hearing.
