Textbook Scholarships
In partnership with Follett bookstore, for the 2025-2026 academic year the University of Northern Iowa, is able to provide a limited number of $100.00 Textbook Scholarships to students. These scholarships support students at the University of Northern Iowa with the purchase of textbooks and other academic materials that are required for the current academic term.
Criteria:
- Students must first complete a Textbook Scholarship Application for the request to be considered. If the application is not live, the application process has closed for the semester.
- Students must:
- be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (full-time) of coursework, as an undergraduate student, for the semester they are requesting assistance,
- have a current year FAFSA on file,
- and be enrolled in an in-person program.
- Students are only eligible to receive the Textbook Scholarship once during their time as an undergraduate student at the University of Northern Iowa.
Process:
- Applications will be opened on the first day of classes for the fall and spring semesters. Once funds are exhausted, the application will be closed.
- Applications will be reviewed for thoroughness in responses and confirmation that students meet the above outlined criteria.
- Scholarships are issued in the form of a Gift Card which will need to be physically picked up and physically used at the University of Northern Iowa Bookstore, run by Follett, located at 1009 W. 23rd Street., Cedar Falls, IA 50613.
- Processing applications may take up to three business days. Students will receive follow up communication to their UNI email account.
The Textbook Scholarship application is available through our online form. If this form is not active, funds for the Textbook Scholarship have been exhausted and the form is closed.

FAQ's
- What if my professors expect me to have course materials on the first day of class or if I have an assignment using materials due the first few weeks of the semester?
- These funds are limited and are not intended to cover all of the costs for a students textbooks. These funds are intended to be supplementary. The application opens on the first days of classes and students can expect a response within three business days. A student could receive their Textbook Scholarship before the end of the first week of classes.
- What if my books are mostly or entirely automatically billed ("inclusive access" or "Follett Access")?
These funds are limited and are not intended to cover all of the costs for a students textbooks. At this time, the Textbook Scholarship does not cover “inclusive access” or “Follett Access” purchase online.
- What if my materials are only sold somewhere other than the UNI Bookstore, such as a publisher's website?
These funds are limited and are not intended to cover all of the costs for a students textbooks. At this time, the Textbook Scholarship does not cover materials sold somewhere other than the UNI Bookstore.
- Who is considered a distance student? If some of my classes are online and some are in-person, am I a distance student?
Online & Distance Education students are enrolled in a program that is delivered online through Online & Distance Education. In-person students are enrolled in primarily in person classes, spending their time physically present on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls.
- I'm a UNI student taking courses at an Iowa community college. Am I eligible?
If you are an in-person student, enrolled in primarily in person classes, spending time physically present on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls, IA, please complete an application for further consideration.
- What supporting documentation should I provide with my application?
No supporting documentation is required or requested. Please answer questions honestly and thoroughly.
